Sermon note (1st svc)
One of the things people are confused about in Old Testament where there are judgement verses. We need to rightly divide the Word. Which portion is law and grace.
Not teaching Old Testament as a law. Wool and linen mixed is self effort and righteousness of God. Law and Grace mixture.
All discouragement is unbelief.
Luke 24:27
And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Things concerning Himself.
Jesus is the Bread of Life.
In Jesus there is no unevenness. He is not hard when He is firm. A man’s man.
Jesus is altogether lovely.
God sees Him as thick bread. We see Him as thin bread. Thick bread is before He did His first miracle, before He was exposed to the world.
When we find Him we find ourselves.
As He is, so are we in this world!!
As He is accepted so are we in this world!
As He is healthy, so are we in this world!!
Rightly dividing the Word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Martin Luther
“The law is for the proud and the Gospel for the brokenhearted”
The law is holy it cannot make man holy
Luke 24:44
The Scriptures Opened
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
Before Jesus came, Mr Law was here. Law cannot bend.
Ephesians 3:2-3
if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already,
Every dispensation means a change in God treating man
7 dispensation in the Bible-
1. Dispensation of Innocent (Adam and Eve created) when there is nothing to choose from, u cant say the person has free choice.
Ended with Adam and Eve living by conscience
2. Dispensation of Conscience (everyone live by the knowledge of good and evil) the problem with morality teaching. Doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Grace teach you to give.
Ended with judgement of the flood.
We have boldness to enter by the blood of Jesus! The preaching to point back to Jesus. Without Christ we can do nothing
3. Dispensation of human government
The power to govern new earth. 8 people who came out from Noah Ark.
This dispensation ended with the Babel tower trying to reach the heavens.
God love story was written in the stars. Now we don’t need that because we have the Bible.
The Lion of the tribe of Judah.
4. Dispensation of Promise. One man one nation.
Abraham. Promises to him are pure grace. That ended with Egyptian bondage. Joshua told them lets us serve the Lord and not the Egypt, the idols
5. Dispensation of law. Lasted 15 hundred years.
Moses delivered people out of Egypt. Presume on their strength when they have none.
This dispensation ended.
We are dead to the law to marry Jesus!
We are married to the resurrected One that we should bear fruits to the Lord.
The law was given to sinners to make them feel lost before they can be saved. Believers don’t struggle with the law and sins, but we indulge.
Sanctification is by faith.
Confess our sin because i am forgiven. Than confess i am the righteousness of God in Christ.
Romans 7:2-4
For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
Romans 7:15
For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
Romans 7:15-19
For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
The people kept on violating God’s law. The law was kept outwardly. Keeping the law is valid today in society. Is not heart transformed. Grace gives us inward transformation and not behaviour transformation. The law is needed for sinners to know they are sinners.
1 Timothy 1:8-11
But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.
We are dead to the law to marry to the One who was raised from the dead!
Hearts are purified by faith, not by effort. Blessed are the pure in heart. Get a pure heart by faith!
Acts 15:7-11
And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”
Where there is failure there is victory.
Dispensation of law ended with violation
6. Dispensation of Grace. Grace started when Jesus died and rose again. Instead of demanding righteousness from man, God give righteousness to man! The goodness of God leads me to repentance. Confess i am the righteousness of God!
Dispensation will end with rapture. This is a mystery. We won’t be going through tribulation.
The church in the time of darkness will get brighter and brighter.
God is long suffering, not willing that any would perish. God pour out His judgement to purify the earth.
7. Dispensation of Millennium
Ephesians 2:4-7
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Apart from the law sin was dead.
We are governed by the spirit. Obey the prompting of the spirit.
There are 2 comings, not 1 coming of Jesus
Conquering Messiah. Jews saw 2 mountains as 1 mountains. They saw 2 comings as 1 coming.
Romans 7:9
I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.
His first coming was to die for all of us
The mystery is the church
1 John 4:10
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
God loved us! Jesus stretched His hands wide and died for us.
1 John 4:19
We love Him because He first loved us.
Ephesians 4:32
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
The people are forgiven!!
