Sermon note (1st svc)5th May 2013 sermon
We are in the world but not of the world.
There are things you can do that will prolong your lives. You see that in Proverbs
The devil lay traps. Surely Jesus shall deliver us! Not perhaps, is surely!!
Once you are saved, you need to know you are loaded up. You are blessed so that you can be a blessing.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Some people may be serving their ego, or for material gains when they are in full time ministry. Once you are saved, it is great honor to serve the Lord.
Flowers and puppies just give joy by being themselves.
John 12:26
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
Doing christian works does not mean you are serving Christ. In everything across, we are serving Christ. When we are serving Christ, something happened. Him, my Father will honor. He will price you and regards you very highly! He will honor the one who serves the Lord Jesus Christ.
An employer may have 100 employees, but one particular employee he makes sure he is motivated because he honors him.
In the work of the Lord be steadfast, unmovable.
When we start to look at each other, we get disappointed
Steadfast- the root word is sit. Before we can serve Christ, we got to be settled! We must be seated in there!
We cannot serve to score brownies points with God.
Is not righteousness by works.
Be seated. Be relaxed!
Unmovable! When we are serving the Lord we are cool and relax. We worship relax. We bless our children relax. We go to work relax. That is the idea of steadfast. Settled, not stress!
We can work but we don’t sweat (self-effort)
Unmovable means cannot be moved. Be a Solid rock- people can go to for advise.
Be a man that says yes means yes and no means no!
Always abounding (going beyond the measure, going the extra miles)
It is matter of serving the Lord day to day. Always abounding in the Lord
There is a fruitfulness to your labor. Your labor will not be in vain.
Jesus is the Perfect Servant. As we behold Him, we are been transformed from glory to glory.
Jesus Christ came in human flesh. That is why in the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.
The gospel of Luke traced all the way to Adam.
The gospel of Mark is the face of Ox. Strong to labor. Strong to work.
Every leaders must have 4 faces.
Quality of God on you.
The touch of God on your life. The touch of the divine.
The leader must be able to serve.
Learn to serve our family
Life is meant to live for Christ and for others.
Servant heart yet a man people can approach.
The servant is there to serve.
Mark 1:1
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The son don’t have to do the things the servant does. There is dignity.
Jesus is majesty
Jesus removed His outer garment, and He stood down and washed their feet. Only people who know they have everything from God, can stood down and serve.
The One who knows everything from the beginning to the end. Do you know Him?
If you don’t trust him don’t marry him.
Make sure you human kindness is the compassion from the Lord and is not just want to feel good in yourself.
God would choose a servant who failed (John Mark) to write about the Servant who does not fail.
2 Timothy 4:11
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.
God restored Mark. Book of Mark is the shortest book.
Eutheos – immediately, straight away.
Nature of a servant to do immediately
See all the “immediately”, “as soon as”
Mark 1:12
Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.
Mark 1:31
So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.
Mark 1:42
As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.
There are 45 verses in chapter 1 and 35 of 45 begin with the sentence And
And is a joining word but you don’t begin with And. Out of 16 sentence, there are 11 sentence open up with And!
1200 times And is used to open a chapter and a verse!
And speaks of movement. And there are still works to be done And He did this…
That is the life of Jesus!
1. Announced by the forerunner
2. Approved by the Father
3. Anointed by the Spirit
4. Assailed by the devil
5. Acknowledged by the wild beasts
6. Attended to by angels
7. Acclaimed by the multitude
Mark 1:3-4
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
God promised He is sending His Messenger, His Son
Isaiah 40:3
The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord;(Yahweh)
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God.
Word comes first, and then voice! John was the voice.
Jesus veiled His glory. Is your privilege to search it out
Philippians 2:5-8
The Humbled and Exalted Christ
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
He is God and He put aside for man
Serving sinful man. Man that are subject to failure. These are the man He keeps on serving.
You are My Beloved Son in You I delight!
Mark 1:10-11
And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
When God said that, He has not performed any miracles at that time.
What a joy Jesus was to His Father. His obedience and honoring to His parents.
He was subject to His parents. And the next verse, Jesus increased in wisdom and favor.
Learn to submit. Submission is not giving in.
When John the Baptist baptised Jesus and when He was transfigured in the mountain, these two occasions, God said Jesus is His beloved in whom He is well-pleased.
It is at the lowest place of the planet earth (dead sea) – baptism
Mountain was the highest place
Both lowest and highest, God is saying to Jesus He is His beloved Son!
The heaven open up to Jesus.
When you talk about Jesus, heaven open up.
That name is the Name above any other man!
Mark did not take the trouble to mention Jewis law. In the gospel of Mark there are 3 times more miracles mentioned than Matthews.
When come to serving God, what you do is more important than what you say.
The theme of Mark is divine service.
With grace, love and power!
Jesus came not just with grace but with power!
He came not to be served but to serve!!
It is the Lord serving us! He served us until we are so full! Even in Jesus’ most tired form, He was giving the best. Steadfast, abounding!
The woman came to be served and when she was so full, she became evangelical!
He wants to give peace to our minds!
We must consent.
There are more miracles in Mark.
In the gospel of Mark we have 12 accounts of Jesus casting out demons.
In Matthews we only have 4-5 accounts compared to the 12!
Although Servant, He has dominion.
He flows best in those who are lowly with servant hearts. Servant leadership. You serve people.
The more you serve people, the more profitable you become.
If you think of serving and not just how to get money.
If you serve, you be the greatest.
The true test of ministry – of all man born of women, there is none greater than John the baptise. He kept on pointing people to Jesus!
True ministry brings people to Christ and Christ to the people.
Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin
Look at this God Man.
Focus on Jesus Himself.
Meal offerings is fine flour.
Mingle with oil
Pour with oil
Anointed with oil
Mark 1:12-13
Satan Tempts Jesus
Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.
Tempted – tempted to sin or been tested. Jesus cannot be tempted to sin! Tempted is the same word for tested.
Something inside us called the flesh.
All men have it but Jesus does not!
He is yet without sin!
He was tempted in all points but not pertaining to sin!
There is nothing inside Him to be able to stir for sin
Testing is not just to show something is amiss. Testing is also to show it is perfect.
The devil had to acknowledge Jesus is pure Gold! This is our God!!!
Everywhere He went, He casted out devils!
Even demon recognised Jesus is the Holy One of God. He was screaming when Jesus was preaching.
We have the use of the name of Jesus!!
Mark 1:13
And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.
He was in the presence with the wild beasts. Even the wild beasts acknowledged Him.
He was in the wilderness 40 days.
Tempted by satan, acknowledged by wild beasts.
The only scars placed by man on Jesus’ hands.
Run for the One who created everything!
He served us with power and love.
Take heed. Don’t despise angels with us.
He will keep us in all our ways!
Mark 1:32-34
Many Healed After Sabbath Sunset
At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.
Don’t be cut off from the Source. By Him all things are made!
Mark 16 opens with sunrise.
Mark 16:2
Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
Jesus, the Servant, came into our darkness and brought the light of His glory and grace to bear on our darkness
Jesus stepped in our darkness. We don’t have to be afraid. Let Him save us!
Mark 16:19-20
Christ Ascends to God’s Right Hand
So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
When we serve the Lord, we are not alone. He is still working, with, not apart from! As we serve the Lord, we are not alone!
Even though He is glorified, high and lifted up, He still serve and minister!
He did not come to be served, He came to serve!
This message is for those who are steadfast. Allow the Lord to serve them and fill them and now they are abounding.
Came not to be served but to serve and gave His life that we might live! This is our God, the Servant King. He called us now to follow Him. To give our lives as daily offering. Of worship to, the Servant King
Felecia says
I’m so glad Jesus came and gave His life so we could live! He has not left us alone. He ordered His angels to watch over us and sealed us with the Holy Spirit. We don’t mind the Lord Jesus serving us. He is our ever present help in time of need! He has no sin, but He died carrying our sins away. God raised Jesus up and justified us! Now we are a new creation, old things have past away and all things are new! Hallelujah! I love how Jesus tenderly takes care of me! Thanks for sharing your notes Evelyn.
